Reading, Berkshire – Antiques | Garden Furniture | Second-Hand Furniture

Reading dates from the 8th century and became an important centre in the Middle Ages, partly due to its abbey which had royal connections. In the early 16th century, Reading was already the largest town in Berkshire and the 10th largest in England as far as tax revenues were concerned. The early stages of the Industrial Revolution in the 18th century saw the beginning of iron works and the brewing trade for which Reading became famous. The development of the railway networks throughout the 19th century consolidated the town’s position as a trade centre.

Nowadays, Reading is involved in information technology and insurance. It has remained faithful to its historic heritage, yet embracing its future, and modern buildings coexist with listed properties.
